2016 has been a special year for all-new G-Shock watches and Casio just announced another new analog-digital series, the G-Shock GA-500. The first three models include the GA-500-1A (black), the GA-500-1A4 (black and red), and the GA-500-7A (white).

The design of the GA-500 series is inspired by urban sports and features a large round face with a cross shape design that evokes the look of a wheel on a bike or skateboard. The face features a 3D index and analog hands, inset dial, and LCD display. The side buttons have a slanted, streamlined shape to reduce contact with the wrist. The watch has a large front-facing button to easily stop the stopwatch and there is also a feature to start the stopwatch timing directly from timekeeping mode.

Features of the GA-500 series include shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, world time, 1/100 second stopwatch (24 hours), countdown timer (60 minutes), 5 alarms with 1 snooze alarm, hourly time signal, full auto-calendar, 12/24 hour format, button tone on/off, LED light with afterglow, hand shift feature, and an estimated 3-year battery life. The dimensions and weight are approximately 57.6 × 48.9 × 17.1 mm and 75 grams.

The GA-500 series represents a bold new look for the G-Shock analog-digital lineup. The style is somewhat of a departure from the usual G-Shock designs and the added stopwatch features should appeal to athletes of all types.

Update: G-Shock Japan announced the GA-500-1AJF, GA-500-1A4JF, and GA-500-7AJF for a September release with a list price of ¥17,000 JPY each.
